D1/ International (or Phnom Penh) / Siem Reap
Morning: Welcome to Siem Reap airport by your guide and transfer to your hotel. Installation in the rooms if available.
Afternoon: Continue to Angkor Thom with the Kleangs, Prah Pithu, Victory Gate, Thommanon, Chau Say, and then wait for the sunset over the towers of Angkor Wat, a world-famous moment and appreciated by visitors. Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at the hotel.
Visit of Angkor Thom which, after the passage of the South Gate, brings together the Bayon temple, the Terraces of Elephants and the Leper King, the Royal Palace and the Baphuon. Lunch in a local restaurant.
Angkor Thom was built by Jayavarman VII from the end of the 12th century and acquired the status of capital for about 300 years. This is why we encounter in this city some later monuments, but also some that are anterior to the work of the king.
Morning: Visit the Small Circuit with the temples Takeo, Taprohm (superb and world-famous whose giant roots, which have grown over the centuries, enclose whole sections of walls and prevent them from collapsing), Banteay Kdei, Terrace of the Sras Srang, Prasat Kravan. Lunch at a local restaurant.
Afternoon: Visit of the Grand Circuit with the temples Pre Rup, Mebon, Tasom, Neak Pean, Prah Khan (another major temple of the site of Angkor, which was once a city surrounded by a 700m side wall, housing a university). Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at the hotel.
Morning: Excursion to Kbal Spean <the river of the thousand Lingas>, part of river carved over a few hundred meters, which is reached after a small walk in forest, and Banteay Srei <the Citadel of Women>, small pink sandstone temple finely chiseled, through the fields and local villages. Lunch in a local restaurant.
Afternoon: Entirely at Angkor Wat, the most famous and extensive monument of the complex, a masterpiece of Khmer art, whose central towers are the pride and symbol of an entire nation. The temple is surrounded by moats and galleries adorned with sumptuous bas-reliefs. Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at the hotel.
Morning: Excursion to the Tonle Sap Lak with boat tour of floating fishing villages. Small stroll in ox-cart before transfer to the pier. Tonle Sap is the world's finest freshwater lake which welcomes one of the largest colony of threatened waterbird species in Southeast Asia. The life of fishermen is truly unique: installed on floating houses on very high stilts, they depend on water fluctuation and use a wide variety of fishing gear whether it is family, artisanal or industrial. Return to Siem Reap.
Then you will visit the Artisans d'Angkor's Chantier-ecole, a learning center for disadvantaged children in craft trades where, since the arrival of this organization in Cambodia, thousands of children have attended this training course and are now in a position to support their families. Lunch in a local restaurant. Afternoon: A last visit to Old Market for shopping, and the former French colonial district which adjoins, will complete this tour of Siem Reap, the city of temples whose name is now highly evocative.
The markets of Cambodia are rich and colorful and you can stroll through the aisles in search of the object sought after, to take away or to offer.
