Angkor Thom was built by Jayavarman VII from the end of the 12th century and acquired the status of capital for about 300 years. This is why we encounter in this city some later monuments, but also some that are anterior to the work of the king.
Afternoon: Excursion to Banteay Srey <the citadel of Women>, small red sandstone temple finely chiseled, trough local villages and rice fields and return by Banteay Samre, a temple a little away from the classic itineraries and in perfect state of conservation. Dinner in a local restaurant and overnight at hotel,
Morning: Entirely at Angkor Wat, the most famous and extensive monument of the complex, a masterpiece of Khmer art, whose central towers are the pride and symbol of an entire nation. The temple is surrounded by moats and galleries adorned with sumptuous bas-reliefs. Lunch at a local restaurant.

Tonle Sap is the world's finest freshwater lake which welcomes one of the largest colony of threatened waterbird species in Southeast Asia. The life of fishermen is truly unique: installed on floating houses on very high stilts, they depend on water fluctuation and use a wide variety of fishing gear whether it is family, artisanal or industrial. Return to Siem Reap.
Visit of Angkor Artwork, workshop for the manufacture of handicrafts, under the leadership of a renowned craftsman expert in lacquer, gilding and polychromy, who employs local, young and hard of hearing workers, and perpetuates the tradition of traditional techniques for the design of its products (lacquers, statues, paintings ...). Under his leadership, in the space of 10 years, 350 artisans will be trained in the practices of crafts. Dinner in a local restaurant and overnight at hotel.
D4/ Siem Reap - Preah Vihear - Siem Reap
Early departure from the hotel for an excursion to the Preah Vihear temple (app. 2 hours journey), located close to the border with Thailand and which was buildt during the Angkor era. Ownership of the temple by Cambodia was under dispute from neighbouring Thailand and violent clashes occured accasionally.
Its buildings stand on a mountain covered with forests along long roads of nearly 1,500 meters on a gradient of more than 600 m. The whole site is exceptional. The architecture is adapted to the constraints of the site and to the religious functions of the temple. Admire the quality of the carved stone ornaments.
The perimeter around this temple was subject to contestation for many years and violent disputes between the two neighboring countries, ambodia and Thailand, erupted episodically. But since 2013, a decision of the The Hague's International Tribunal definitively attributed this space to Cambodia and the calm finally imposed itself.
Picnic lunch on site. Return to Siem Reap in the late afternoon. Dinner in a local restaurant and overnight at hotel.
