Program

D1/  International (or Phnom Penh) - Siem Reap
Morning: Welcome to Siem Reap airport by your guide and transfer to your hotel. Installation in rooms subject to availability. Free time. Lunch in a local restaurant.
Afternoon: Visit of the major temples that are Taprohm (superb and world-renowned whose giant roots, which have grown over the centuries, enclose whole sections of walls and prevent them from collapsing), Neak Pean, Prah Khan (another major temple of the site of Angkor, which was once a city surrounded by a 700-meter enclosure, housing a university). Then wait for the sunset over the towers of Angkor Wat, a well-known moment appreciated by visitors. Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at hotel

D2/ Angkor
Visit of Angkor Thom which, after the passage of the South Gate, brings together the Bayon temple, the Terraces of Elephants and the Leper King, the Royal Palace and the Baphuon. Lunch in a local restaurant.
Angkor Thom was built by Jayavarman VII from the end of the 12th century and acquired the status of capital for about 300 years. This is why we encounter in this city some later monuments, but also some that are anterior to the work of the king.
Afternoon: Excursion to Banteay Srey <the citadel of Women>, small red sandstone temple finely chiseled, trough local villages and rice fields and return by Banteay Samre, a temple a little away from the classic itineraries and in perfect state of conservation. Dinner in a local restaurant and overnight at hotel,

D3/ Angkor
Morning: Entirely at Angkor Wat, the most famous and extensive monument of the complex, a masterpiece of Khmer art, whose central towers are the pride and symbol of an entire nation. The temple is surrounded by moats and galleries adorned with sumptuous bas-reliefs. Lunch at a local restaurant.
Afternoon: Excursion to the Tonle Sap Lak with boat tour of floating fishing villages. Small stroll in ox-cart before transfer to the pier. Tonle Sap is the world's finest freshwater lake which welcomes one of the largest colony of threatened waterbird species in Southeast Asia. The life of fishermen is truly unique: installed on floating houses on very high stilts, they depend on water fluctuation and use a wide variety of fishing gear whether it is  family, artisanal or industrial. Return to Siem Reap.
Visit of Angkor Artwork, workshop for the manufacture of handicrafts, under the leadership of a renowned craftsman expert in lacquer, gilding and polychromy, who employs local, young and hard of hearing workers, and perpetuates the tradition of traditional techniques for the design of its products (lacquers, statues, paintings ...). Under his leadership, in the space of 10 years, 350 artisans will be trained in the practices of crafts. Dinner in a local restaurant and overnight at hotel.

D4/ Siem Reap - Preah Vihear - Siem Reap

Early departure from the hotel for an excursion to the Preah Vihear temple (app. 2 hours journey), located close to the border with Thailand and which was buildt during the Angkor era. Ownership of the temple by Cambodia was under dispute from neighbouring Thailand and violent clashes occured accasionally.

Its buildings stand on a mountain covered with forests along long roads of nearly 1,500 meters on a gradient of more than 600 m. The whole site is exceptional. The architecture is adapted to the constraints of the site and to the religious functions of the temple. Admire the quality of the carved stone ornaments.
The perimeter around this temple was subject to contestation for many years and violent disputes between the two neighboring countries, ambodia and Thailand, erupted episodically. But since 2013, a decision of the The Hague's International Tribunal definitively attributed this space to Cambodia and the calm finally imposed itself.
Picnic lunch on site. Return to Siem Reap in the late afternoon. Dinner in a local restaurant and overnight at hotel.

D5/ Siem Reap – Kompong Cham - Phnom Penh
After breakfast, take the road with your guide towards Phnnom Penh.
First stop at Kompong Kdei to visit the Naga bridge. Continue till Kompong Cham and visit the rubber plantations, that made the reputation of the region during the Indochina period. The high quality rubber was recognized and exported. Lunch. Stopover at Skun, small village specializing in the sale of giant spiders; fried in garlic and herbs, the spiders are piled high on wooden trays and sold to passing motorists and tourists. Arrive in Phnom Penh in late afternoon, transfer to hotel. Dinner in a local restaurant and overnight at hotel.

D6/ Phnom Penh

Full day visit of the capital and visit the Wat Phnom, the Royal Palace housing the Silver Pagoda (first built in 1866 after King Norodom's final installation in Phnom Penh following the abandonment of Oudong. All the components of the Royal Palace were reconstructed in hard, while maintaining the same architecture, in 1917, under the reign of King Sisowat), the National Museum (a magnificent  Khmer classical ocher-colored building housing an admirable collection of Cambodia's glorious past) and the Central Market (yellow-coloured, built in the 1930s, consists of an immense dome and four wings that cover vast ramifications of walkways with goods stands) and a mini cruise on the Mekong at sunset. The sun sets behind the Royal Palace and it is the shimmering colors of red and yellow that will end this day in Phnom Penh. Lunch during visits and dinner in local restaurants, overnight at the hotel.

Option: Plae Pakaa show at National Museum performs in high and low seasons, which transports you to the different regions of the Kingdom, leading you through traditional ceremonies and celebrated dances, in the splendid gardens of the National Museum. Take part in this exploration of Cambiodia's rich culture inspired by the Angkorian era.
